Basham presents an argument in favor of global conspiracy theories that does not advert to evidence in favor of any particular conspiracy theory. The class of conspiratorial entities that worries Basham is, by definition, so successful at hiding any and all evidence of their existence that there is no possibility of any manifest evidence in favor of positing their existence. Although Basham ends his essay with the words, ‘Difficult theoretical work lies ahead,’ he has nonetheless advanced our understanding of these odd epistemic beasts known as conspiracy theories.
